The trick was to get rid of the runway and leave the models free to walk on a set route within the space used, thus turning the monument into a theatrical set. The other new element was to displace the audience, who was not longer parallel to the runway. Music is a vital element in this new perspective, that’s why an original soundtrack was used. Both the shows were very successful.

At Mercati Traianei Marafante made the best of the archaelogical sites, with many entrances and exits in a vortex of effects. The audience was seated in groups at different levels and in this way there was an ever-shifting point of view of the clothes.

In this case the fashion show was presented at the obelisk, in the centre of the square, but the whole space was used, as the models made their entrances at the four sides of the square at the same time to reach the centre. These simultaneous entrances were repeated at a pressing rhythm, giving the idea of an enormous mechanical toy.

In the end all the models were at the different levels of the obelisk, and the scene looked like an immense, cake-shaped carillon.
